Cross-border arms, explosives racket busted in Mizoram, key accused arrested

News Trust of India: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has uncovered a cross-border smuggling network involving weapons, ammunition, and explosives operating in northeastern states. They have apprehended a main suspect in the case from Aizwal, the capital of Mizoram.

The person in question has been recognized as Lalngaihawma, who lives in the Mamit region of Mizoram. He was apprehended on Thursday based on information about the activities of a well-coordinated, extensive illicit weapons and ammunition distribution network operating in specific northeastern states.

According to NIA investigations, the accused, along with others, was involved in the illegal transportation of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials, not only inside the northeastern states but also beyond the border. He was collaborating with several agents, including rebel factions located over the border.

As part of their plot, the accused had previously delivered such dangerous equipment to numerous individuals in India and overseas. These illegal weapons and explosives are believed to have been employed in violent acts of terrorism and criminal operations in several areas.

The arrest occurred following the registration of a complaint by the anti-terror agency in December 2023. The charge was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), UA(P) Act of 1967, Explosive Substances Act 1908, and Arms Act.
