(NTI) : Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a thorough review of the state’s law and order situation with senior officials, including the Director General of Police, commissioners, deputy inspectors general, district magistrates, and senior superintendents of police, via video conferencing.
The Chief Minister instructed the officials to ensure the state’s law and order remained tight and to control crime effectively. Expressing dissatisfaction over crimes, including robberies at jewelry stores, he directed officials to improve coordination, ensure prompt information dissemination, strengthen intelligence systems, and focus on night patrolling.
The Chief Minister also instructed senior police officers to brief any criminal incidents on time and immediately share this information with the Director General of Police, ensuring that accurate information reaches the public through the media. He emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous coordination with the media. To control crimes against women, he called for making the Gaura Shakti app more active. He also stressed the need for appropriate action in cases of religious conversions and “love jihad” and suggested the need to consider why and where crime is increasing in the state. Furthermore, he directed all relevant agencies to coordinate to address the issue of demographic change.
The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand, known as the “Devbhoomi” (Land of the Gods), should not become a refuge for criminals from other states. He ordered continuous and intensive checking campaigns in border areas. Ensuring that criminals fear the police and that the public’s trust in law enforcement increases should be a priority. He also instructed officials to focus on tenant verification and external individuals, particularly ensuring that children studying in educational institutions are being properly accounted for as state residents.
Regarding the recent robbery at a jewelry store in Haridwar, the Chief Minister ordered the formation of an investigative committee under the leadership of the SP City and directed that strict action be taken against those responsible. He emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to make Uttarakhand drug-free by 2025 and focused on community policing. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of considering what can be done better to control crime in the state. He also highlighted the need for prompt resolution of complaints, the importance of officials maintaining a straightforward demeanor with subordinates, and avoiding regional biases. Additionally, he directed efforts to enhance public awareness and training programs to effectively curb cybercrime.
