IIT Madras Plans to Support 100 Startups Across Diverse Industries in 2024

(News Trust of India): The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has unveiled its lofty aim to nurture a minimum of 100 startups covering a multitude of sectors during the year 2024. Acknowledged as a renowned deep-tech startup ecosystem in India, the IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC) manages programs relevant to innovation and entrepreneurship inside the academic institution.

V Kamakoti, the Director of IIT Madras, explained the successes of the institution in the prior year and highlighted prospective undertakings. Kamakoti underlined important initiatives such as the development of the IITM Zanzibar Campus, the commencement of a Department of Medical Sciences and Technology, and designs for a revolutionary multidisciplinary sciences school.

Kamakoti remarked, “In 2024, we are also envisaging the commencement of 100 startups. Intriguing innovations have been developed through firms like Hyperloop, ePlane, Agnikul Cosmos, and Mindgrove innovations, all incubated by IIT Madras. These startups are positioned to offer products of substantial national significance.”

In the year 2023, IIT Madras etched its mark in history as the first-ever IIT to build a campus beyond national borders. Initially offering programs in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the institute aims increasing its academic offerings in the upcoming year at IITM Zanzibar. The inaugural cohort at IITM Zanzibar comprises students hailing from Zanzibar, mainland Tanzania, Nepal, and India, with a significant 40% participation of female students.

Director Kamakoti proposed new plans for 2024, highlighting socially significant projects targeted at the welfare of the nation. IIT Madras wants to culminate the fiscal year with an astounding tally of 366 patents, striving to attain an average of one patent every diem.

Kamakoti added, “For the year 2024, we have a plethora of exhilarating initiatives and socially pertinent projects that would immensely benefit the nation. We are striving to conclude this fiscal year (31st March 2024) with 366 patents. We shall exert ourselves to achieve a patent every day. It is a source of enormous pride at IIT Madras that we engage in a profusion of innovative endeavors.”
