The largest statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar outside of India will be unveiled by the United States on October 14 in Maryland. Ram Sutar, a well-known sculptor and laureate of the Padma Shri award, created the statue.
On October 14, the largest statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar outside of India will be unveiled in the US. The “Statue of Equality,” a 19-foot statue of Ambedkar, is scheduled to be unveiled in Maryland. The statue will stand as a testament to Ambedkar’s lasting influence.
Ambedkar, an Indian lawyer, politician, and social reformer, is credited with creating the Indian Constitution. He served as the chairman of the Constituent Assembly’s drafting committee, which was in charge of developing the Indian Constitution.
The ‘biggest’ statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar will be unveiled in North America.
The Ambedkar monument is a component of the Ambedkar International Center (AIC), which is being constructed on 13 acres of property in the Maryland city of Accokeek. AIC is a civil rights organization with headquarters in the US that seeks to create a more equitable society based on the ideals and philosophy of Dr. BR Ambedkar.
According to the AIC, this is the largest statue of Babasaheb outside of India and was put as a part of the Ambedkar Memorial being built at this facility.
It stated that a sizable contingent of Ambedkarite movement representatives and his adherents from the USA and other countries of the world were anticipated to attend the event.
The AIC claims that this memorial will promote Babasaheb’s ideas and teachings while displaying a picture of equality and human rights.
The largest statue of Sardar Patel, which is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was also built by renowned artist and sculptor Ram Sutar, a recipient of the Padma Shri award. In the past 60 years, Sutar has also created more than 90 monumental sculptures, which have been displayed in countries including India, the US, France, Argentina, Italy, Russia, and Malaysia.
Representatives from several nations are anticipated to attend the ceremony on October 14 to inaugurate the statue of Ambedkar.
India’s tallest Dr. BR Ambedkar statue
The tallest statue of Dr. Ambedkar in India was unveiled in Telangana earlier this year. Ram Sutar and his son Anil Sutar also created the 125-foot-tall statue, which Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao unveiled.
At a cost of Rs 146.50 crore, the statue was constructed using 360 tonnes of stainless steel and 114 tonnes of bronze. It is situated close to the State Secretariat on the famous Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad.
