Yogi Govt Forms SIT to Probe Illegal Foreign Funding to Madrasas in UP State

The establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the government of Uttar Pradesh to look into unauthorized foreign funding to madrasas in the state has created controversy, with detractors charging that the government is discriminating against Muslims and fomenting division among communities.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Cyber Cell each have a presence on the SIT, which is led by an official with the Additional Director General rank. The state madrasa education body has already been contacted by the team to request information on madrasas.

According to allegations made by the government, radicalism, fundamentalism, and conversion are being disseminated through madrasas with the help of unlawful foreign money. Additionally, it has made note of the roughly 4000 madrasas in the state’s Nepal belt that are unobserved.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration has been charged by the state’s opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) with targeting Muslims and attempting to sow division among the state’s communities. According to SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, the administration is attacking madrasas in an effort to draw attention away from its own shortcomings.

The Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), two other opposition parties, have also voiced their opposition to the SIT’s creation. They claimed that regardless of a child’s religion, the government should prioritize giving them all access to high-quality education.

In order to protect national security, the government has defended its choice by arguing that it is vital to look into unauthorized foreign sponsorship of madrasas. Additionally, it has stated that it is dedicated to giving every child a high-quality education.

It is anticipated that the SIT’s inquiry will take six months. It will be interesting to see what proof the team unearths and what suggestions it comes up with.

It is an important step for the UP administration to have established the SIT. It occurs at a time when concern over the growth of extremism and radicalism in India is on the rise. The government claims that these views are being disseminated through madrasas with unlawful foreign funding.

The government, however, has been charged by the opposition with pursuing a policy of discrimination against Muslims. The administration has refuted these claims and stated that it is merely looking into criminal activity.

All parties will be keenly monitoring the SIT’s probe. It will be crucial to observe what proof the team unearths and what suggestions it comes up with.

The controversy surrounding the SIT’s creation has brought attention to the subject of madrasas in India. Traditional Islamic schools known as madrasas offer instruction in both religious and secular areas. For decades, they have been a crucial part of Muslim children’s education in India.

However, there have been questions raised recently concerning the caliber of instruction offered at madrasas. Radical ideology is allegedly taught in some madrasas.

These worries will probably grow much more as a result of the UP government’s decision to create the SIT. An unbiased and fair examination into the claims of unauthorized foreign sponsorship of madrasas is crucial. It’s crucial to watch out that the government does not single out Muslims as a result of this probe.

No matter their religion, the government should prioritize giving all children access to high-quality education. This can be accomplished by raising the standard of madrasas and helping Muslim students who wish to enroll in secular schools financially.
