Pandal collapses at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, many feared trapped

News Trust of India: Saturday morning witnessed a significant incident unfold at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. Near gate number 2, a section of the under-construction lawn hangar collapsed, resulting in injuries to eight individuals who have since been hospitalized. Currently, a team comprising Delhi Police and two fire tenders is on-site, actively managing the situation. Providing insights into the unfortunate occurrence, the Deputy Commissioner of Police highlighted the substantial size of the fallen portion, which is presently undergoing removal.

Speaking to NTI, a stadium guard shared, “Fortunately, the majority of the workers had left for breakfast prior to the incident.” Had this not been the case, the outcome could have been far more severe. Several individuals were either entering or exiting the area when the collapse transpired, leading them to be caught beneath the collapsed structure. Prompt medical assistance including ambulances and fire brigade teams swiftly arrived at the scene. Intensive efforts are underway to sift through the debris to ensure no one remains trapped. The injured parties have been transported to both Safdarjung Hospital and the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi, with reports indicating that all are now in stable condition, fortunately out of harm’s way.
