LK Advani says Bharat Ratna award a ‘honour’ for his lifelong ideals

News Trust of India: In a significant declaration, LK Advani embraced the renowned Bharat Ratna, expressing his gratitude for the distinction conferred upon him. Prime Minister Modi, in a Saturday announcement, said that the seasoned BJP politician was scheduled to receive the Bharat Ratna, describing it as an acknowledgment of his lifelong aims and convictions.

Reflecting on this distinction, Advani said, “With deepest humility and gratitude, I accept the Bharat Ratna bestowed upon me today. It means not only an honor for me as an individual but also for the beliefs and principles I dedicatedly supported throughout my life to the best of my ability.”

Acknowledging President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the award, Advani also conveyed his deepest appreciation to his family, particularly his late wife Kamla, noting, “They have been the greatest source of strength and sustenance in my life.”

From his beginning as a volunteer in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the age of 14, Advani emphasized his sole quest of fulfillment in dedicated and selfless service to his beloved nation. Recalling his close partnerships with Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Advani gratefully acknowledged their influence on his path.

Expressing thanks to party members and swayamsevaks, Advani paid respect to his political journey, noting his contribution as the 7th Deputy Prime Minister of India from 2002 to 2004. As one of the BJP’s co-founders and a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Minister of Home Affairs and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Advani, who served as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate during the 2009 general election, symbolizes a lifetime of unrelenting service to his homeland.
