Kanpur’s Bikaru Incident: 23 Accused Convicted, Faces 10-Year Jail Terms

Out of the 44 suspects in the Bikaru incident, 30 were charged with gangster-related charges. Today (September 5th), a trial was held for these 30 accused in the gangster case, and 23 of them were found guilty. Meanwhile, due to lack of evidence against seven other suspects, they were acquitted.

In July 2020, the Vikas Dubey gang had ambushed a police team that had gone to Bikaru village in Kanpur for a raid. Gangster Vikas Dubey and his colleagues had opened fire, killing eight policeman. Out of the 44 suspects in the Bikaru incident, 30 were charged with gangster-related charges. Today (September 5th), a trial was held for these 30 accused in the gangster case, and 23 of them were found guilty. Meanwhile, due to lack of evidence against seven other suspects, they were acquitted.

It should be noted that this trial just pertains to the gangster case, and the trials against all 30 participants in the Bikaru incident are still ongoing. If found guilty in those crimes, they will face separate terms. Choubepur police station chief Krishna Mohan Rai had submitted a FIR against 30 out of the 44 offenders in the Bikaru incident on October 23, 2020.

Bikaru Village Shaken by Vikas Dubey’s Deadly Game

On the night of July 2, 2020, CO Bilhaur had led a police unit to Bikaru to arrest Vikas Dubey. Vikas Dubey had already received information regarding this raid. As soon as the police approached the area, Vikas Dubey and his gunmen started indiscriminate firing, resulting in the death of eight police personnel, including the CO. During this incident, some members of the police force managed to flee and preserve their lives.

This episode shocked the entire state, causing the police to take action. Within a few days, five members of Vikas Dubey’s gang were slain in encounters. 45 suspects were sent to jail. Then, on July 10, Vikas Dubey was also slain in an incident. He was caught at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The police had alleged that Vikas Dubey had attempted to flee and had fired at the officers. In self-defense, the police also fired back, resulting in Vikas Dubey’s death.”
