Fireworks are not allowed to be produced, sold, or stored in Gurugram for three months. What you should know
An edict from the Gurugram District Administration forbade the production and sale of all firecrackers. only permits the bursting of green crackers at the designated day and hour.
On September 28, the Gurugram district administration issued an order prohibiting the manufacture, sale, and storage of all firecrackers.
“Exercising the powers vested in me by virtue of Section 144 of CrPC 1973, the Explosive Act, 1884, and the Explosive Rules and other enabling powers as district magistrate, Gurugram, I prohibit the manufacture, sale, bursting, and use of joined firecrackers, except for green crackers, and the use of barium salts in fireworks, as it is harmful to the environment,” reads the order issued by deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav on Thursday.
In 2018, the Supreme Court rejected an outright ban on fireworks but upheld the legal sale of green firecrackers, which are less harmful to the environment. The latest restriction in Gurugram particularly prohibits the use of barium salts in pyrotechnics as well as combined firecrackers (apart from green crackers).
In accordance with orders from the Central Pollution Control Board and the Supreme Court, Nishant Yadav also gave the regional officer of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board instructions to monitor air quality and transmit data to the relevant websites.
Flipkart and Amazon are barred from selling crackers.
In accordance with the Explosive Substances Act of 1884 and the Explosive Substances Rules of 2008, Yadav issued directives governing the storage, marketing, and manufacture of firecrackers. Under Section 144 of the CrPC, e-commerce businesses like Flipkart and Amazon were told not to accept online orders for firecrackers. The government also set out to raise awareness about green crackers and how to tell them apart from regular ones.
The duty of ensuring compliance has been delegated to the Municipal Corporations of Gurugram, Manesar, and Gurugram. The order further said that the Tehsildar, Block Development and Panchayat Officers, Municipal Corporation Officials, Police Station In-Charge, and Block Development Officers would work together in their respective regions to ensure that these directives were rigorously followed.
