After consulting with Raja Riaz, the head of the opposition in Pakistan’s National Assembly (NA), twice on Saturday, outgoing Prime Minister of Pakistan (PM) Shehbaz Sharif chose Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar to serve as interim PM of the nation.
The choice was made three days after Pakistan’s parliament was dissolved on the advice of outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by President Dr. Arif Alvi, preparing the country for a general election amid political and economic instability.
Kakar’s appointment as Pakistan’s interim prime minister received the approval of Dr. Arif Alvi, the country’s president.
Anwarul Haque Kakar’s nomination as caretaker prime minister has been accepted by President Dr. Arif Alvi, according to a message on the official Twitter account of the Pakistani president’s office.
The tweet further stated that “the President approved the appointment in accordance with Article 224 A of the Constitution.”
Raja Riaz was cited by Dawn News as saying, “We had earlier decided that the caretaker PM should be someone from a smaller province and a non-controversial personality,” later on the selection. To eliminate the feeling of lack in small provinces was our goal.
“We have finally agreed that Anwaarul Haq Kakar will serve as the caretaker prime minister,” Riaz continued.
On Sunday, August 13, Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar will take office as Pakistan’s interim prime minister.
