Supreme Court announces that Kuldeep Kumar from AAP is the next Mayor of Chandigarh

Chandigarh (News Trust of India) : A major change happened when the Supreme Court decided that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Kuldeep Kumar is the real winner of the Chandigarh mayoral election. This important ruling happened after a heated legal fight about the legitimacy of some votes.

The Supreme Court’s choice is a very important event in the Chandigarh mayoral election story. During the process, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud ordered that eight ballots, which were first thought to be invalid by the Returning Officer, be counted as legitimate. These votes, very important for the result, were incorrectly marked by the officer, causing doubts about the fairness of the voting process.

The head judge, along with judges JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, oversaw the case, closely reviewing the evidence shown. Kuldeep Kumar, the AAP councillor, contested the decision of the Presiding Officer to nullify the votes, citing anomalies in the handling of ballots.

Following the ruling, Kuldeep Kumar expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court, emphasizing the significance of safeguarding democratic norms. He said that truth may encounter challenges but ultimately wins. Kumar committed to prioritize stalled development projects in Chandigarh, promising to serve the interests of the people.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud did not mince words in criticizing the malpractice exhibited during the election process. He decried the acts of the Returning Officer as a parody of democracy, emphasizing the need to defend the sanctity of elections. The court’s involvement demonstrates its commitment to guaranteeing fair and transparent electoral practices.

The Supreme Court’s scrutiny of the electoral process underlines the significance of accountability and reform. By holding officials responsible for their acts, the judiciary sends a strong message that election malfeasance will not be allowed. This ruling acts as a spur for strengthening democratic institutions and defending the electoral process from improper interference.
