NTPC Green Energy Limited Partners with Suzlon for India’s Largest Wind Energy Project

(NTI): NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has embarked on a groundbreaking partnership with Suzlon Group to deliver India’s largest wind energy project to date, boasting an impressive 1,166 MW capacity. This landmark initiative marks a significant stride in India’s push towards renewable energy and underscores the potential of wind energy in driving the country’s energy transition.

Project Highlights

Suzlon Energy Ltd. announced that the project will involve the installation of 370 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. These state-of-the-art turbines will be deployed across three strategic locations in Gujarat, known for its commitment to renewable energy development.

The electricity generated from this massive wind farm is expected to power approximately 3 million households, contributing significantly to India’s clean energy grid. This project is particularly notable as it is the first of its kind to be initiated by a public sector undertaking (PSU), further enhancing NGEL’s wind energy portfolio and positioning Gujarat as a leader in the country’s renewable energy sector.

Technical Excellence

The project will feature Suzlon’s flagship S144 WTGs, equipped with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers. These cutting-edge turbines will be installed across two projects managed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of NGEL, and one project under the joint venture IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. The installation of these turbines will set a new benchmark for PSU-led renewable energy projects in India.

Industry Leaders Speak

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to partner with NTPC Green Energy Limited, the renewables arm of India’s largest utility, NTPC Limited. This landmark collaboration reaffirms our commitment to accelerating India’s renewable energy transition. It marks our first direct wind energy order from NGEL, signalling Suzlon’s triumphant return to the PSU customer segment.”

Tanti emphasized the significance of the project, highlighting how it will further establish Gujarat as a renewable energy leader. “This project will be the largest wind energy initiative by a PSU in Gujarat, setting a new standard for future projects. Upon completion, it will contribute substantially to India’s energy self-sufficiency, economic prosperity, and NGEL’s ambitious target of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.”

A Milestone for India’s Energy Future

JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, echoed the sentiment, stressing the importance of collaboration in achieving India’s renewable energy goals. “NGEL and Suzlon are stalwarts in their domains and will play a fundamental role in enabling India’s energy transition. This project, while the largest wind energy order in India, is also the first of many more such transformative projects between the two in the future.”

Chalasani reaffirmed Suzlon’s commitment to delivering this project with exceptional quality and within the stipulated timelines. “This strategic collaboration, featuring our flagship S144 WTGs, is set to become a landmark case study, showcasing the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative by advancing local manufacturing and sustainable energy solutions.”
