Google has introduced a new feature in its NotebookLM tool called “Audio Overview,” which allows users to transform their research into AI-generated podcasts. This feature involves two AI hosts who discuss the material you provide, summarizing the information and making connections between topics as they engage in conversations about the research.
From Research to Audio Conversations
NotebookLM already leverages Google’s Gemini AI model to summarize research, and the Audio Overview feature takes it a step further by presenting the information in an audio format. Users can access this by opening a notebook in NotebookLM and selecting the “Audio Overview” option.
Limitations
While this podcast-style feature can make research more engaging, it’s not suitable for every topic. Sensitive subjects such as cancer or war might not lend themselves well to casual discussion. Additionally, the generated podcasts may include some filler content, which might not always present information concisely.
Google emphasizes that the Audio Overview feature isn’t designed to offer an objective take on research but rather reflects the user’s notes. Users should also keep in mind that generating a podcast may take several minutes, and the feature is currently only available in English. As with other AI tools, accuracy may vary.
How to Try the New Feature
To explore this feature, open a notebook in NotebookLM, click the notebook guide in the bottom-right corner, and then choose “Load” under the “Audio overview” option. This can offer users a unique way to see how AI interprets and processes their research.
